Wow. What a great read! One to Hold is the first book I have read from Tia Louise, and I enjoyed it. The characters were believable, and I found that I could be friends with people like them.

Melissa needed to get away. "Running" away from the stress of being the rich man's trophy wife, she goes on a spa getaway with her best friend. While vacationing at a Spa Resort, she runs into the of her dreams.

Derek is in the right place at the absolute wrong time. He is at the hotel for business but is intrigued by the beautiful yet broken, Melissa. His breath taken away and Derek can't help what he does. Something he has never done. He steals moments of time with Melissa but later finds that she has stolen his heart.

A hidden agenda puts a wedge into their romance. Melissa always knew her attraction was wrong. She was still married, but she wanted out of the loveless marriage. Actually, she wanted out of it all. The riches and the new romance with Derek. She needed a way back to herself.

I was taken aback by the twist in this story. The path the main characters have to walk wasn't easy. Tia Louise did a fabulous job! The love scenes were intense and endearing.

One to Hold was rather a sweet romance. Oh, there was definitely steam and there were secrets and a little suspense. But finishing Melissa and Derek's story left me feeling warm and fuzzy. And I liked that.

When Melissa and Derek's eyes meet across a hotel bar, it's as if lightning strikes. Their chemistry is white-hot but they each are only at this hotel for a week so their interactions come with an expiration date. Plus, they're both hiding something that at this point they're not willing to divulge.

Once the week is over, Melissa returns to reality and to attempt to put her life back on the path she wants. Here we see the kind of life she's been leading and I understood how much it meant that she'd opened herself up at all to Derek. Things come to light about Derek, though, and it really almost breaks her. I was thrilled when circumstances led them back together for a second chance.

In the beginning of the book, it did feel as though things happened at warp speed. It was insta-lust rather than insta-love but the feelings came quickly. However, once I got a little background on Melissa, I felt I understood her better and her 'fling' with Derek made more sense. Plus, I'm a hopeless romantic at times, so I chose to believe this could happen. ) I would have liked a little more backstory on Derek though. It would have deepened my connection with him to know more about the source of his pain. I really liked getting his POV in the epilogue though.

I'm sorry I've been hoarding this book for so long, Ms. Louise. I promise to read the next books in the series soon!
I thought the story was good. At first, I had my doubts. Do women really see a guy in a bar, have a part of one drink and then leave with him to have wild sex on a balcony of a big hotel? I can't imagine it, but perhaps some do. But, whatever. Their attraction is instant and crazy. They are both at a big resort in Ariz. He is attending a convention and she is at a spa on the same grounds. You can tell she is trying to escape from a very bad ordeal. She is a strong personality but is beaten down and needs to get away from life. So, she and her best friend head to a resort for a week to regroup and relax. But they meet these two incredible guys and decide a fling for a week is just the relaxing they need.

The sex is hot and intense. The story has that, abuse and the aftermath, friendship, adventure, etc. It was a very different kind of love story. I was told character development is when a character starts out as one thing but over the course of the story they grow and evolve. I thought the characters in this story did - except for the jerk of an ex-husband. But then he started evil and he ended evil and it is just who he was!! I thought the two main characters took a hold on their life and made changes for the better. I enjoyed the story and I would definitely recommend it. I read the one star reviews and I just didn't get what they were talking about. I didn't agree with them at all.

On a business trip Derek picks Melissa up at a hotel bar while she’s on a spa retreat with her friend. They get to know each other physically throughout their week while carefully guarding their own personal information and her identity.

There are some interesting plot twists and well designed confrontations. Melissa beats us over the head a few too many times in the beginning telling us how “unavailable” she is. The reveal when she returns home would have been more dramatic if it hadn’t been so obvious. Still Melissa and Derek are both likeable characters, and they have quite a few hot and heavy scenes. On the downside to that, there is instant lust but nothing to illustrate how they fall into instant love. The first person POV story moves along well. The ending was actually pretty satisfying till the epilogue, which left me slightly frustrated. Too much is crammed into it (some things that I’m not sure even work time wise), cracks in the whole instant love/lust scenario become evident, and more plot doors are opened rather than closed. While there is a HEA and no actual cliffhanger, be warned—the epilogue serves to set up a future novella for the pair, rather than provide closure on the current story.
