How do you lose a child?

It's not so hard, really. You simply make one irredeemable choice. For Bristol Taylor, that choice will haunt her for the rest of her life. With the first anniversary of little McKinsey Taylor's disappearance just days away, Bristol plans to escape to her stepmother's beach house - which is no beach house at all, but a 20-foot trailer on a cracked slab in Half Moon Bay. It is a shell's throw from the water, she'll give her that.

All she wants is to be alone as she faces what she prays will be the one and only anniversary she has to endure. But Bristol's stepmother, sister and best friend have no intention of letting Bree spend the weekend by herself. This unlikely trio hijack her plans -- and her idea -- and hit the road for the coast, with Bristol an unwilling captive.

Love covers a multitude of sins, they say, but can it truly redeem the irredeemable?

Without a doubt, this is Souza's best work thus far. Stirring, chilling, and true to life, this story grabbed me, not letting go until the final page. If you want a story that will make you feel, this will do the job.

The Color of Sorrow Isn't Blue eBook Sharon Souza Reviews

One of the most achingly beautiful, achingly true books I have ever read. From the opening lines I was mesmerized. Souza is a writer who crafts a unforgettable story with a master's touch with language. This is a must-read for anyone who wants thoughtful, memorable fiction.
From the first page I was captivated and could not put the book down. Unlike so many other fiction books I have read, the first chapter is not full of long boring pages telling you all the details and background before you can enjoy the story. Sharon grabs you on the first page and then slowly unravels the background and details like a spool of thread on a sewing machine making you reluctant to put the book down in case the next page has something you can't miss. The characters were so vidid that I actually cried and laughed with them. I found myself thinking of them as my friends and wondering what would happen to them next in between readings. A rich and thought provoking story that will stay with you long after you have finished the book.Thank you Sharon for another GREAT book!!
A beautifully written and gripping story about a mother's worst nightmare. It grabbed me on the first page and wouldn't let me go. Souza is a master of emotion and words. Also, her character development was wonderful and I found myself laughing and crying with the main character, Bristol, but also with some of the quirky and wonderful secondary characters. Highly recommended.
Don't be fooled into thinking this book is dealing with a subject you'd rather not tackle. I can see the wheels turning "Oh yea, a novel about grief. Just what I want for my entertainment." Wrong thought process. In some ways, all stories are about sorrow--or loss, disappointment, fear, need. The Color Of Sorrow Isn't Blue deals with life and in so doing takes on guilt and friendship, bitterness and hope, fear and redemption, loss and perseverance, anger and generosity, blame and forgiveness, despair and love.

The story shows how a husband and wife act and react when their relationship is put in the crucible. It shows friends and family floundering yet rising to be their best selves. It shows the great need and question of the human heart where is God?

All this in a beautiful, gripping story. The prose drips with color. The characters walk around like real people. They are memorable and so true to real life, you might want to call them up after you finish reading to check in and see how they're doing today.

This is a story you won't want to miss. I highly, highly recommend The Color Of Sorrow Isn't Blue.
Sharon K. Souza is an author worth watching. Her book was among some suggested on this website and I couldn't stop until I finished. The characters are authentic and sound like people you've known and their actions are logical though not predictable. Ms. Souza captures emotional trauma's aftermath with such clarity and vividness, she should be given her day in the spotlight.

The premise of the story is taken from today's headlines. It hits deep inside each person's psyche as something beyond a few moments of contemplation as the dilemma of such an awful situation to bear and yet the primary characters must live through the moments that follow one breath at a time. Will faith be enough to sustain them? How do you hear from God when you are angry at Him? How do you think when your guilt overwhelms you completely? How do you love when you feel so unlovable? These are the questions addressed by most world religions for many eras past and are well managed by a talented author, who guides you through these landmines.

Take the journey this book offers, it will challenge you and help you refocus on life's most important messages. All aboard!
Loved it.

I've read all of Sharon's books and this was her best one yet. It hooked me in the first chapter and was hard to put down. It's written with such raw emotion, you feel Bristol's anguish over the loss of her daughter. What a beautiful story of how God's love and the love of friends and family can carry us through the storms of life.
Without a doubt, this is Souza's best work thus far. Stirring, chilling, and true to life, this story grabbed me, not letting go until the final page. If you want a story that will make you feel, this will do the job.
